AskQuran ("we", "our", or "the app") is a free, source-grounded Quran search service available at askquran.co and as a mobile application. This policy explains what information is collected when you use AskQuran, how it is used, and what it is not used for.
We built AskQuran as a sadaqah jariyah — a continuing act of charity. Your trust matters to us. We do not sell data, show ads, or share your information with third parties for commercial purposes.
1. Information We Collect
When you submit a search query, the following information is automatically transmitted to our server and recorded in our analytics log:

We do not collect: names, email addresses, passwords, phone numbers, advertising IDs, precise location data, biometric data, payment information, or any account credentials. AskQuran has no user registration or login.
2. How We Use This Information
- To operate and improve the search service
- To understand which topics, languages, and editions are most useful to users
- To monitor for abuse and protect the service
- To track geographic reach for the purpose of expanding language support
- To deliver push notifications about new features or Quran-related content (Android app; you can disable notifications in your device settings)
- To analyse in-app usage patterns via anonymous analytics so we can improve the app experience
We do not use this information for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose.
3. Website Analytics (Google Analytics)
The AskQuran website (askquran.co) uses Google Analytics (gtag.js) to collect aggregated, anonymised statistics about page visits — such as which pages are viewed and how long visitors spend on each page. Google Analytics may set cookies in your browser and may collect your IP address.
Google's data practices are governed by the Google Privacy Policy. The AskQuran mobile app does not include Google Analytics.
4. Mobile App Analytics (xNotify)
The AskQuran mobile app uses xNotify, an analytics service, to record anonymous in-app events such as searches, page views, and feature usage. Each event is associated with a randomly generated distinct_id stored on your device — there is no name, email address, or phone number attached. Events are transmitted to xNotify's servers over HTTPS.
xNotify acts as a data processor on our behalf. It does not receive personal information and does not share data with unrelated third parties.
5. Push Notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging)
The Android version of AskQuran supports push notifications powered by Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), a service provided by Google, and xNotify's push delivery layer. To enable delivery, the app registers an anonymous subscriber ID and your device's FCM push token with these services. No account, phone number, or personal identifier is used — notification delivery is entirely token-based.
Firebase's data practices are governed by the Firebase Privacy and Security documentation. Push notifications are not yet active on iOS.
You may disable push notifications at any time from your device's Settings → Notifications → AskQuran.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your data with third parties for commercial purposes. The services listed below process data on our behalf as service providers (data processors) — they do not receive your data for their own independent use:
- xNotify — anonymous in-app analytics and push notification delivery (mobile app)
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — push token management and notification delivery (Android app)
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the security of the service.
7. Data Retention
Server-side analytics logs (search queries, IP addresses, timestamps) are retained for up to 12 months for operational analysis and are then deleted or anonymised. Anonymous analytics events stored with xNotify are subject to xNotify's own retention policy. FCM push tokens are retained only as long as necessary to deliver notifications.
8. Cookies
AskQuran itself does not use cookies for tracking or authentication. The website uses Google Analytics which may set cookies as described in section 3. No cookie consent banner is used because we do not set first-party tracking cookies. Your theme preference (light/dark) is stored in your browser's localStorage only and never sent to our server.
9. Children's Privacy
AskQuran is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. Because we do not require registration, no age-specific data is collected.
10. Security
All data transmitted between your device and our server is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. Push notifications are delivered via FCM's encrypted transport. Server-side logs are stored on a private, access-controlled server.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Effective date" at the top of this page. Continued use of AskQuran after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
